Tichawa Vision and STEMMER IMAGING have signed an agreement for the distribution of the Contact Image Sensors by Tichawa by all four subsidiaries of STEMMER IMAGING. These sensors, referred to as CIS, provide a good alternative to conventional line-scan cameras, for example for the inspection of flat products.

The patented CIS sensors by Tichawa Vision, a manufacturer from Friedberg, can be produced as a modular construction with a maximum scan width of 4160 mm and allows resolutions of up to 3600 dpi which corresponds to a pixel size of 7 µm. The Contact Image Sensors are available in monochrome or colour variants as well as with UV and IR light. Due to high data rates of these products they are especially suited for connection via a CameraLink acquisition card. The selection of a suitable acquisition card allows you to implement systems with image pre-processing.

The bar-shaped CIS products offer the following main advantages: the low space requirement of just a few centimeters above the object, the distortion-free image, the great lengths that can be implemented as well as high insensitivity to incoming external light. CIS sensors join the used sensors together with the associated illumination and optics in a very compact design and allow an excellent and distortion-free imaging for an attractive total price.

The CIS product families available include the slim design MIDICIS with line length from 130 to 520 mm and the robust MAXICIS with 260 to 4160 mm as well as TUBECIS for control of internal surfaces in pipelines and cylinders. Beside these standard products, customised designs can be implemented.

In contrast to the conventional scanner technology the advancement implemented by Tichawa Vision offers the tenfold depth of focus range up to 4 mm and higher. Thus, this technology is applicable for inspection, for example of paper, banknotes, glass, foils, wood, sheet metal, printed circuit boards or wafers. In these areas the CIS sensors by Tichawa demonstrate significant advantages as regards their resolution and data rate if compared to the conventional line-scan cameras.

At the moment further advancements of the CIS sensors are in process. For instance Tichawa Vision will soon introduce models with a Gigabit-Ethernet interface for low-end applications as well as CIS sensors with increased range of focus depth of ±10 mm, they will expand the field of application significantly.
